Some time ago, the smartest brands and agencies in South Africa realised something important: forced influencer integration simply wasn't landing anymore. They knew that audiences could see through it, creators could feel it, and the work often lacked authenticity, impact and cultural relevance.
The industry has evolved significantly since then, and we're delighted to see that the best agencies and brands are no longer treating creators as just another media platform or distribution channel. They're bringing them into the process earlier, collaborating with them strategically, leaning into their audience understanding, creative instincts and cultural influence, says the awards.
In many cases, creators have become consultants, collaborators, storytellers and creative partners, not just talent attached to a campaign at the end. And the quality of work coming out of these partnerships is proving just how effective that approach can be. So effective in fact, that it deserves to be recognised and celebrated.
And that's exactly why the Excellence in Branded Content Award, part of the Content Creator Awards, was created, adds the awards.
This category exists to celebrate the agencies and brands who are doing exceptional work with creators, and to shine a light on the campaigns setting the benchmark for branded content in South Africa. If a campaign shifted perception, drove meaningful results, sparked conversation, and simply got the collaboration right, this is where it belongs.
The Excellence in Branded Content Award also plays a direct role in strengthening the creator ecosystem, as it's the only category with an entry fee, R2 900 per submission, and every entry fee is reinvested into creator development programmes.
These funds support workshops that equip creators with the practical skills required to operate as modern creative entrepreneurs.
Today's creators are running businesses, negotiating contracts, managing tax obligations, working with agencies and brands and building sustainable media brands, often without formal business training.
The workshops funded through this category now focus on closing that gap, professionalisation, compliance, financial literacy and corporate readiness. In short, this category actively helps build the next generation of creators.
What the Judges Are Looking For
Entries will be assessed on strategic insight, clarity of opportunity or challenge addressed, creative execution, originality, integration, effectiveness, impact on brand and business outcomes, cultural relevance, audience resonance and shareability, ethical execution, transparency and compliance in creator partnerships, says the awards.
For creators, there is also a dedicated category with no entry fee.
For creators who have partnered with brands and delivered standout branded content from their own platforms, the Best Creator x Brand Collaboration Award offers a separate stage to be recognised.
This category celebrates creators who have mastered the art of collaboration, where branded work remains authentic, creative, and aligned to their voice, adds the awards.
It recognises content where the creator's voice remains central, the collaboration adds value to both audience and brand, the execution is creative, shareable and culturally relevant, the content performs without compromising authenticity.
This is a creator-only category, brands and agencies may not enter, designed specifically to recognise creators who turn brand briefs into meaningful, high-performing content, says the awards.
Why Enter
For agencies and brands, this is the opportunity to benchmark their best work against the industry standard and have it recognised where it matters. For creators, it is a chance to showcase collaborations that felt true to their voice and built real audience connection.
For both, it is a way of contributing to a system that actively reinvests into the growth of South Africa's creator economy.
Founder's Note
"The branded content landscape has reached a new level of maturity in South Africa. The strongest campaigns today are not just creative executions, they deliver real business and cultural impact. The Excellence in Branded Content Award exists to benchmark that standard, while also reinvesting directly into the development of the creator economy. Every entry helps fund the training and professionalisation of creators who are now building real businesses in this space. At the same time, the Best Creator x Brand Collaboration Award ensures creators themselves are recognised for the role they play in bringing these campaigns to life in an authentic and impactful way," says Manuela Dias de Deus, Founder of the awards and One-eyed Jack, the agency behind them.
Built around integrity and industry growth, the awards also continues to support the South African Content Creator Charter and responsible digital publishing standards aligned with the IAB and Advertising Regulatory Board, concludes the awards.
