Launched during the monthly #VitalityAtHome webinar series, hosted by Discovery Vitality on Wednesday, 29 July, the partnership means that Discovery Vitality members can now donate their Discovery Miles earned through Vitality Active Rewards to SHOUT4MASKS on Vitality MoveToGive.

SHOUT4MASKS, a public service initiative spearheaded by local South African musicians Danny K and Kabelo Mabalane, is an emergency 'shout out' to all South Africans to address the shortage of personal protective gear for the country’s healthcare workers.

"We are in the eye of the storm of this devastating COVID-19 pandemic and, over the next three months, our healthcare practitioners will be tested like never before," says Mabalane, co-founder of SHOUT Foundation. "They will face insurmountable odds as they battle to save the lives of our fellow South Africans."

"We must rally around and do whatever we can to ensure these healthcare heroes are protected with the essential PPE. You can join them in the frontline and become a critical partner in helping them cope with the pressures and rigours of saving the lives of our fellow compatriots. If they should fall, this will have serious dire consequences on our entire healthcare ecosystem. We must protect them and ensure their safety," Mabalane adds.

Co-founder Danny K says, "This is your opportunity right here, right now together with Discovery Vitality and SHOUT4MASKS to make a profound contribution in our fight against this deadly virus. We are extremely grateful to Discovery for partnering with SHOUT4MASKS. I cannot think of a better way for people to support and protect our healthcare workers than by being active, healthy and safe themselves during this time."

SHOUT4MASKS has thus far donated masks to healthcare workers at:
  • Helen Joseph Public Hospital
  • Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital
